A good run for Suárez at Atlanta

Trackhouse Racing

In yesterday’s “Folds of Honor” QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Daniel Suárez ran a very good race in the Trackhouse Racing No. 99 Camaro.

In this race, Suárez started from 25th, and was able to work his way up to 19th by the end of stage 1. During stage 2 Suárez managed to drive the No. 99 from 19th to the top-10, where he stayed for a majority of that stage. Suárez even led a lap during green flag pit stops on lap 161. The No. 99 finished stage 2 in 10th place.

In stage 3 Suárez continued to keep the No. 99 in the top-10, until with 60 laps to go, Suárez pitted for fuel and tires. On pit road, Suárez was caught speeding, and was forced to serve a pass through penalty under green flag, which put the No. 99 a lap down. In the final 60 laps Daniel Suárez was able to return to the top-20, and gain a 17th place finish for the team.

Considering that the No. 99 team was without their regular crew chief (due to penalties at Phoenix last week), this run at Atlanta was really strong! I think it’s fair to say, had the Suárez not speed on pit road, the No. 99 could have easily secured a top-10, or maybe even a top-5 finish. We’ll have to keep an eye on Daniel Suárez as the NASCAR Cup Series heads to more mile and a half tracks in the future.
