It was announced this morning that Ty Dillon, who drove for Germaine Racing in the organization’s final year, will be driving the No. 96 Toyota Camry for Gaunt Brothers Racing at the Daytona Road Course on Feb. 21st.
Many saw this decision as a possibility, as last month Gaunt Brothers Racing announced that Ty Dillon would drive the No. 96 Camry for the team in the “The Great American Race”, the Daytona 500 on Feb. 14th. At the time there was no confirmation, but it was expected that Ty Dillon would try and make at least one other start for the team in the 2021 season.
After Germaine Racing closed their doors in 2020, Ty Dillon was left without a ride for this upcoming season, and has had a tough time finding any opportunities to drive in the NASCAR Cup Series.
It is not expected that Ty Dillon will run full-time for any team this season, instead it seems as though he will run select races for a variety of teams. Gaunt Brothers Racing too will not run full-time this year in the NASCAR Cup Series, so even if Dillon does have an opportunity to drive the No. 96 in other races, it will not be full-time.
Even through Dillon’s trouble finding a ride he has had some other great opportunities to race. Tomorrow, Feb. 9th, Dillon will drive the No. 23 in a one off for 23XI Racing, as their primary driver Bubba Wallace is not eligible for the NASCAR Cup Series Busch Clash, and Ty Dillon is.
The fact that Ty Dillon has secured a seat for at least one more race in 2021 is exciting news for Dillon and his fans alike, it’s one more step in the right direction for his NASCAR Cup Series career.
