Team Penske Crew Chief Brian Wilson moves to Wood Brothers Racing for the 2022 season; Blaney takes Hassler

Nigel Kinrade Photography

This morning (11/11/21) it was announced by Wood Brothers Racing that Team Penske's Crew Chief of the No. 22 NASCAR Xfinity Series team, Brian Wilson will join the Wood Brother Racing No. 21 NASCAR Cup Series team for the 2022 race season.

Wilson, who has worked for Team Penske for more than 18 seasons will join Penske's affiliate team WBR with hopes of bringing some Championship contending results to the No. 21 car with Cup Series rookie, Harrison Burton. Prior to his career as a crew chief, Brian Wilson worked with team Penkse as a race engineer for the No. 2 NASCAR Cup Series team, playing a vital role in Brad Keselowski's 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. Wilson is also responsible for Austin Cindric's 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship with Team Penske (as a crew chief), as well as Brad Keselowski's 2010 Xfinity Series Champion (where he worked alongside Crew Chief Paul Wolfe).

23 victories, 89 top-5 finishes, and 126 top-10 finishes across a whopping 163 starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series are some hefty statistics for Wood Brothers Racing, as they look for a strong character to replace Jonathan Hassler. Hassler who crew chief-ed Matt DiBenedetto for 21 races this season will join Team Penske for the 2022 season to crew chief for Ryan Blaney, replacing the retired Paul Wolfe.

With any luck these shifts within Team Penske and Wood Brothers Racing will keep both teams competitive, as well as bring both organizations to new heights. Statistics speak loud and clear, but results will truly determine the caliber of these crew chiefs as they step into new roles at the Cup Series level.
