Josh Berry to fill in for Michael Annett at Bristol, Annett injured again

It was announced this afternoon (9/17/21) that Josh Berry will once again fill in for driver of the No. 1 Camaro, Michael Annett. Annett has (once again) sustained injury to his leg, causing him to be unable to race in this evening’s NASCAR Xfinity Series “Food City” 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Michael Annett originally injured his leg prior to this summer’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, which took place on July 10th, 2021. Ever since, Annett has been in and out of the car, one week believing his leg has healed, and the next finding out the hard way that it hasn’t. Annett has now reinsured his leg twice, this time reportedly while working out.

This leave of absence has serious playoff implications for Annett and the No. 1 team, because as we head into the final race of the Xfinity Series regular season, Annett will not have a chance to advance to the post season and contend for the 2021 championship.

30 year old Josh Berry, who will take Michael Annett’s place tonight may be a rookie, but don’t let that label fool you. Josh Berry is a very qualified driver holding titles like “ 2020 NASCAR Weekly Series Champion”, “Winner of the NASCAR Xfinity Series ‘Cook Out’ 250 at Martinsville Speedway”, and “Driver of the NASCAR Xfinity Series No. 8 Camaro”. In only 25 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts Berry holds one win, five top-5 finishes, and twelve top-10 finishes to his name, making Josh Berry one Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s best candidates to fill the empty seat.

As of right now, it is unclear when Michael Annett will be able to get back behind the wheel of a stock car. Be sure to follow Stock Car Media to receive further updates on Michael Annett’s condition.
