Cindric wins Xfinity Series race at Pocono

Penske Racing

Austin Cindric has won the “Pocono Green” 225 Presented by J.P. Mascaro at Pocono Raceway, scoring his fourth NASCAR Xfinity Seties victory this season.

This race at Pocono was far from uneventful, as we saw pit strategy, lead changes, and contact between drivers play an extremely large role in it’s outcome. Today, four drivers were in contention for the win: Austin Cindric, Justin Allgaier, Ty Gibbs, and Daniel Hemric. Surprisingly (or not so surprisingly) each of these drivers had their bad moments, though when those moments occurred were significant to how this race ended. Austin Cindric and Ty Gibbs’ day started out decently, hovering within the Top-15, but the make or break moment came as the final pit stops occurred. Austin Cindric, and Ty Gibbs who pitted before Justin Allgaier were able to get to the front of the field, and battle for the lead. While 3 of our 4 drivers with race winning speed had pitted, one had not, and that was Daniel Hemric. Hemric had the lead after staying out, and surprisingly it was large. This pit strategy may have worked had Hemrics pit-stop gone as planned, instead the No. 18 took a long time on pit road, and came back on track just in time to see the field whizz by.

A team who seems to have been regularly making our post race articles is Jordan Anderson Racing. Today they impressed again, scoring another Top-15 finish. Josh Berry’s 9th place finish here at Pocono marks the team’s 5th Top-15 finish, in only the team’s 6th Xfinity Series start. With Top-15 speed all day, Berry managed to weave through cars in the closing laps to add another Top-10 to the team’s resumé.

One name that cannot be left out of this article is that of Justin Haley. Haley was having an alright day, but after making contact with up-and-comer Sam Mayer, the No. 11 was sent hard into inside safer barrier. The car rebounded back up the track towards the field, as cars tried to avoid Haley, Ryan Vargas was not as luck. The No. 11 and the No. 6 collided, and sent the Jauti Haley even further up the track, and into the outside wall. The car came to a stop, the window net came unhooked, and Justin Haley stepped out of the car… and then laid down on the race track. This incident brought out the red flag. As the AMR safety crew came to his assistance. Both drivers were alright, though the sight was extremely worrisome, and nerve wracking to see. Justin Allgaier will fill in for Justin Haley later this afternoon in the NASCAR Cup Series race, driving the No. 77 Camaro.

In this race Harrison Burton won stage 1, and Ty Gibbs won stage 2.
