After twenty four long hours at Dayona the IMSA Rolex 24 endurance race comes to an end, with Jimmie Johnshon, Kamui Kobayashi, Simon Pagenaud, and Mike Rockenfeller finishing 2nd in the No. 48 Action Express Cadillac. Kamui Kobayashi drove the No. 48 to the finish line at Daytona as he made an attempt to defend his 2020 win, he placed second with only Felipe Albuquerque in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ahead of him.
The Rolex 24 was Johnson's first major race since his NASCAR retirement last November. In 2021 he will race in IndyCar for Chip Ganassi in the No. 48.
7 time NASCAR Champion Jimmy Johnson told NBC Sports "Of course you always want more, but I'll be back some other time in the future" showing his intent to make another start in the IMSA Rolex 24 sometime soon.
The No. 31 Action Express Cadillac driven in part by Hendrick Motorsports' Chase Elliott finished 8th overall in the Rolex 24 after mechanical failures set the team back. The No. 51 Rick Ware Racing Ligier finished 10th overall, piloted by NASCAR drivers Austin Dillon and Cody Ware. NASCAR names A.J. Amendinger and Juan Pablo Montoya finished 4th overall in the Rolex 24 driving the No. 60 Meyer Shank Acura. In terms of NASCAR drivers that drove in this IMSA race, for the most part, they showed fairly good performance, and finished fairly decently.
